SPEAKER:
Phyllis Biffle-Elmore, Author
TOPIC:
Elmore reveals untold stories passed down from her grandmother, who was born after Reconstruction. She recounts poignant stories of how she and other women of her era resisted racism and other incredible atrocities they were subjected to in rural Alabama. Her grandmother was a quilter who only made quilts from the clothing of folks who had passed on. Each piece of cloth told the story of how the deceased person lived and died. Quilting was Elmore’s grandmother’s catharsis, and she used this gift to soften the horrors of racism.
