DESCRIPTION:
An All-Gershwin Evening with pianist Kevin Cole featuring Gershwin’s own solo version of “Rhapsody in Blue.” Kevin is known worldwide for his sparkling piano arrangements of the Gershwin Songbook. Included on this program will be, “Love is Here to Stay,” “Fascinating Rhythm,” “Someone to Watch Over Me,” “Three Preludes,” and the immortal “Rhapsody in Blue” in the unedited full version; as Gershwin himself played it.
BIOGRAPHY:
Kevin Cole has performed with over 100 orchestras worldwide including sold out performances with the Los Angeles Philharmonic at the Hollywood Bowl; BBC Concert Orchestra at Royal Albert Hall; National Symphony at the Kennedy Center and Carnegie Hall. An award-winning musical director, arranger, composer, vocalist, archivist and producer, he garnered the praises of some of America’s greatest songwriters; Irving Berlin, Harold Arlen, E.Y. Harburg, Hugh Martin, Burton Lane, Marvin Hamlisch, Stephen Sondheim, and members of the Jerome Kern and Gershwin families.
His discography includes, “You Are Tomorrow” unpublished songs of Harold Arlen and Martin Charnin with Grammy Award vocalist Sylvia McNair, Gramophone Record of the Year Gershwin’s “Oh, Kay!” with Grammy Award vocalist Dawn Upshaw and first recordings of Gershwin’s Concerto in F, Rhapsody in Blue, and Second Rhapsody in the new U of M Gershwin Initiative critical editions with National Orchestra Institute for Naxos label.
